WHO ME?
I grew up in Canada. East Coast. All the way east, in the land of Anne of Green Gables, Prince Edward Island. A place of bright futures and brighter dreams – even for lippy orphan girls. Sadly, my Igloo home was overrun by polar bears one day. After almost a year spent drifting across the world’s oceans on an iceberg, I finally made landfall on the beautiful beaches of Queensland, Australia, and traded in my snow shoes for a pair of thongs.
Over this time I enjoyed a perfectly good career in advertising as an art director. But I knew, deep down, my art director days were numbered – it would only be a matter of time before the polar bears picked up my scent again. So, I sought out new adventures in the exciting world of production.
To me, production is like the ultimate team sport. Not because we wear matching jerseys, get caught up in doping scandals and wash out at 30, though I do think we should seriously consider the jerseys. It's the rag tag rabble of personalities – one of the things that excites me most about the creative pursuit of filmmaking. I love the motley crew of inventive geniuses. The baker-cum-actor. The sea pirate-cum-grip. The wardrobe stylist who's twelve shades of how-the-hell-did-you-find-that. The art department head who 3D printed her way out of Dodge and into our hearts. Filmmaking is the fleeting moment when all these clever people come together to transform words on a page into something special.
Over the years I've had the chance to make a lot of special things for some really great brands like Anheuser-Busch InBev, the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Hyundai, Isuzu, Red Cross, Suncorp Group, The Lott, BCF, Supercheap Auto, The Coffee Club and V8 Supercars. My past art direction work has been awarded at international shows like Cannes, D&AD, Clios, One Show, AWARD and Effies. My film directing work has been making its way onto local award show stages, but, as always, I'm thirsty for more. Wish me luck!
